What a superb performance from the squad today. We gave our visitors no time to settle, and dominated virtually the entire game, apart form the odd momentary slip.
All credit must be given to St Blazey though, apart from one moment that saw one of their defenders sent off for a 2nd yellow, the players and supporters were an absolute credit to their club… Even when we were so dominant with pressure and possession they never gave up, and virtually never resorted to foul tactics even when frustrated.. something a lot of other grass roots clubs could learn lesson from. Thank you and good luck to all at St Blazey…
Back to the game, and we played some fantastic football, with great movement on and off the ball. We started off scoring early with Ethan Phillips scoring his first on 5 minutes after some good build up play. Shortly after more good possession saw the ball come to Alex Gray on the edge of the box, who smashed the ball into the opposite top corner to make it 2-0.
Ethan then added his 2nd of the game on 28 minutes, closely followed by a strong run from Stuart Davies to tuck home his goal and our 4th on 34 minutes. St Blazey’s goal came right on the half time whistle when a quick clearance saw them break away without too much opposition as most of our players had pressed forward, and a shot from outside the box took a big deflection of a defender and looped into the far corner leaving Wannell stranded. Half time 4-1.
The 2nd half started much as the 1st, which saw us dominate ball possession again, we shifted the ball well and retained possession well, and 13 minutes in saw Chris Ibbeson score his goal during a set piece on 58 minutes. The rest of the game was very much like a training match, and it wasn’t long before Ethan was at it again, scoring his 3rd on 65 minutes, and then added another hat trick in the last 10 of the game. Scoring on 82, 85, and 89 minutes. Fantastic performance that could have been more, especially as Ethan rattled the post twice in the space of 5 seconds and also had the keeper pull off another close range save shortly after in the 1st half.
We move on to our next game, and another home match against local neighbours Witheridge in the League Cup. Wednesday the 5th at 7.30. Would be great to see some more loyal Tivvy supporters to cheer us on in this Cup derby game, and advance into the next round of the competition…. COYY’s.
