Evesham 1 – 4 Tiverton Town

With a squad stripped to the bare bones by injuries and suspensions (which raises its own issues) Tivvy produced their best away performance of the season thus far with a superb first win at Eveshams Jubilee Stadium in over 16 years and condemn the hosts to a first home league defeat of the season. Evesham had only lost one of their previous fifteen matches and with Tom Gardner, Teigan Rosenquest, Jordan Walton and Ben Carter all missing for various reasons, the early signs were not great.

Matters were made worse early on as Steve Kingdon felled the hosts top scorer Lance Smith, who despatched the resulting spot kick, smashing stright down the middle, for his 20th of the season. Man of the Match Jamie Price got on the end of Nick Hursts cross less than 2 minutes later to draw the sides level and Owen Howes 13th of the season, although veteran keeper Kevin Sawyer should have done better, put the Yellows in the driving seat after he had skipped past left back Nick Stanley, Joe Perry produced a fine save from Smith to maintain the leadand Price volleyed narrowly wide just before half time.

Eveshams newest recruit from Hungerford Gary Preen was their chief tormentor, his skill and pace was a constant threat down their left, Nick Hurst booked early in the second half as he struggled to keep him at bay and defender Liam Harding somehow managed to clear the bar from close range after more Preen trickery as the hosts pressed for an equaliser. Mike Landricombe gave the Yellows some breathing space, heading home a Scott Rogers delivery past a rooted Sawyer into the top corner with 20 minutes remaining but back came the hosts, desparate to prevent a second successive league defeat, and a combination of Perry and the frame of the goal ensured there would be no debut goal for Preen nor the grandstand finale it would have set up.

The Yellows sealed victory 6 minutes from time with a contender for Goal of the Season. Levi Landricombe has scored some memorable goals already this season but this one without doubt, and even by his own high standards was a beauty. Another long Perry kick sat up invitingly and with defenders closing, he launched a left foot volley from fully 30 yards, a strike so clean that had Sawyer been given a step ladder and a weeks notice he would still have got nowhere near it, for his 20th of the season and open up a five point gap between second and third place in the standings.
