Mikey Williams In For Camelford Trip
A wet and breezy day at Camelford, and a another frustrating game where points were there for the taking.
The first half saw us miss several good chances to go in at half time with a comfortable lead. Some good football was played on a soft skiddy surface, but with a lack of width at times we played slightly too narrow and squandered some good possession, and the final ball often slid past a willing runner.
The 2nd half started slightly better, width was used better, and the ball was moved at a better pace, but time after time chances were created but not taken. A clinical finishing edge was missing on a day when our keeper had a pretty quiet day, and fine margins separated us between 1 and 3 points.
Nevertheless, a decent performance from us defensively with most of our back line missing, and some fine passing and movement on show when attacking, even though the finish wasn’t quite there. Possibly one of those days when you create so many chances but can’t convert to goals, on another day we may well have had a hatfull.
And the signing of former first team favourite Mike Williams from Willand helped to boost our defensive experience and shape, along side stand in centre half Jake Wannell, both players having a fine game on a fast, soft, slippery surface, a vast change from the hard bouncy surfaces we’ve been playing on to date.
Scott Rogers also made his reserves debut in fine style continuing his return to fitness for the club after his long lay off from injury, with a solid performance in midfield, and was even seen enjoying himself spraying some fine passes around the pitch.
Next week we move on to face Callington at home on Saturday. Another game we will be looking to pick up points from, and with players returning to boost the squad and help push for a possible rise up the table, hopefully we can start to turn the tide of good performances with little to show for all the players efforts.
Anyone looking to watch and support us in our push up the table is always gratefully welcomed, and the support is always appreciated by the players….. COYY’s.
