Positives in defeat
After last weeks result, we went into this game knowing we had to raise our game against a team currently sitting top of the league and scoring goals for fun.
A few changes in personnel and some reorganisation before the game with Stuart Davies pulling out due to shin splints, and we were ready to go.
We were a totally different team from last week, dominating large periods of possession with excellent football played in attack and defence. Several chances came and went, but we kept creating, unfortunately a cutting edge saw us go in 1 down after a fine strike from 25 yards saw the ball curled into the far corner leaving Gibbins with no chance.
The 2nd half saw a similar pattern, with Tivvy continuing to press, and the equaliser came from a fine header tucked away by Kenny Ord. Unfortunately a soft free kick outside the box gave Saltash the opportunity to retake the lead, as a low hard drive saw the wall jump to allow the ball under and into the far corner. We continued to press, creating good chances but sadly lacked the final cutting edge again. As we pressed hard for the equaliser, a swift break saw the visitors break into the box and a sharp turn saw the visitors awarded a rather soft penalty, and converted to make it 3-1.
A huge improvement to last Saturday, and lots of positives to take away from the game. Some dubious decisions didn’t help us, especially when Alex Grey was fouled by a jumping scissor tackle from behind saw a yellow card but no red for such a bad challenge.
Wednesday night we host near neighbours in our league, Exmouth Town, who have also had a good start to the season. Hopefully we can continue to improve from today and earn some points to go with the hard work… COYY’s
