First defeat in 8 games, and it came against a Tavistock team that was the last side to beat us.
The game started at a good pace with both teams shifting the ball at a good tempo. But on 20 minutes Stuart Davies found himself free on the left edge of the box to receive, turn and hit a lovely shot into the top right corner of the goal. Unfortunately that was his last action of the game due to knee troubles, but left giving us a 1-0 lead.
We continued to control a lot of the ball and made a somewhat normally solid Tavistock defence look a little shaky, and we continued to create many good chances to take a bigger lead into the break, but for a lack of better finishing we should have.
The 2nd half started similar to the 1st, both sides pressing and putting on a good display of football. But on 60 minutes Glynn Hobbs found his with space for probably the first time in the the game, and took the ball into the edge of our box to curl a sublime finish into the far corner, levelling at 1-1. Chances started to come and go at both ends, with both keepers being called into action, and we probably came the closest with some well created moves that saw several opportunities going just wide. The visitors seemed to raise their tempo into th last half of the half of the game, and as it looked a draw was on the cards, Tavistock won the ball back deep in their half, and a quick break saw Hobbs racing into the corner of our box to meet a high pace, whilst John Wannell came to meet the same ball. Unfortunately Hobbs arrived a second earlier to flick the ball around our keeper and the two collided, penalty given.. Hobbs himself stepped up and smashed it hard and straight to take Tavistock into a 2-1 lead, which they onto for a win.
Disappointed in defeat, a very good Tavistock team, but positives taken from certain areas of our display and we move on to saturdays game against Godolphin at home. COYY’s…
