Tiverton Town 2 – 0 Wantage Town
Joy and despair are emotions seldom mixed and a strange combination when they are, just ask Levi Landricombe. Twice given the opportunity to give
Tivvy the lead from 12 yards and twice failed, but it is a special talent he possesses and two more goals eventually arrived to take his tally to 33 and
equal the record set by James Mudge for goals in a Southern League season. Jordan Walton was given a rare start in place of the suspended Jamie Price, Owen Howe returned to the starting XI and James Mudge made up the three changes from those who beat AFC Totton last week.
Wantage rolled in to town brimmed with confidence, on the back of an impressive victory over Barnstaple Town and caused Tivvy enough problems to belittle their league position, but a lack of composure in front of goal and the dismissal of midfielder Sam Mason in the first half cost them dearly. Michael Landricombe and Man of the Match Jamie Short missed early chances and James Mudge had an effort superbly saved by Eddie Cavanagh as the Yellows dominated early on.
Referee Michael Halford pointed to the spot for the first time on 36, Sam Mason dragged Jordan Walton to the ground as he was about to fire into an unguarded net and was subsequently dismissed, Cavanagh though guessed correctly, dived to his left and kept out Landricombes kick. Tivvy hearts were in mouths moments before half time as Kalum Youngsam beat Joe Perry to a through ball and went to ground, Halford though decided there was no contact and cautioned the young forward for simulation.
Chance number two from 12 yards came on 54 after Michael Landricombe was tripped after a neat one-two with Nick Hurst, which Levi Landricombe sliced wide. Wantage tails were raised and Youngsam was given the freedom of Ladysmead minutes later but could only find the arms
of Perry rather than the back of the net after Jack Powells run and cross. Cavanagh again did brilliantly to keep out Jamie Shorts effort from range but then miscued a clearance straight to Scott Rogers and his through ball was smashed home, right footed from the edge of the area by a slightly relieved and clearly ecstatic Levi Landricombe.
All 3 points were sealed in the final minute, Tom Bath flicked on Joe Perrys goal kick and with his confidence restored, Landricombe expertly lobbed Cavanagh from 25 yards for league goal number 27 in only 28 appearances.
