Tivvy Travel Club

Tiverton Town Travel Club Player of The Year 2006-07

The travel club has travelled some 2750 miles this season and we have been on the road for over 200 hours!  If it is dedication to the cause you want, then look no further than the Tivvy Travel Club – come rain or shine, intense heat waves or gale force winds, we have been there.

I must mention a couple of journeys personal and memorable to me, one being part of the “magnificent 7” who travelled up to Stamford for a Saturday afternoon game, followed by a sleep over at a hotel in Peterborough with the lads, and then a Sunday afternoon match at Kings Lyn and a long 5-hour drive home after the match. Martyn was unable to travel that weekend, due to illness, so I don’t know if Martyn knows this, but when the team coach left the hotel on the Sunday lunchtime the team was incomplete!  We followed the coach out of the hotel car park when it suddenly stopped.  Out jumped Mike Perry and ran past our car.  We turned to see what was happening – and there was the 2 Yeovil loanees strolling out of the hotel! One thing about the travel club is that everyone is accounted for before setting off.  We don’t leave anyone behind! And I am still wondering what happened to the picture, which was taken down from the men’s loos by Kerry O’Conner and paraded around the lounge bar.  It mysteriously disappeared! Although we lost those 2 games, it was a great weekend away, and I’d like to thank you for having us!

The other journey I would like to mention is a long mid week cup final match at Hemel Hempstead.  Although only 16 members could make the trip, we packed ourselves into a minibus at 3-00pm and headed up the M5 and M4 to cheer on the lads. There may have only been a small group of us there, but we were delighted that we made the journey. It was a special game and you ALL deserved the win, after playing 22 games in the last two months of the season – it was no more than you deserved.  We got home from Hemel at 2-00am, but we were all happy and cheering, so it only felt like an hour’s drive!

So the Travel Club is looking forward to another season on the M5 and M4.

The highs, the lows, the rain, heat waves, and gales. Come rain or shine we will be there to support you – through thick and thin. So, lads, if you don’t want to get left behind, travel with us!  We even have 3 or 4 trolley Dollies running up and down the coach serving hot drinks! Rumour has it that Blake’s coaches are going to install a pasty warmer and chip fryer so that we will have “meals on wheels”! With videos, music, quizzes, and much laughter and tears (tears of laughter that is) it’s always a good day out.

Long live the travel club!

Could I also thank all of our  partners for putting up with us travelling around the countryside.  We know it must be very difficult for you to have a quiet, stress free day when we’re off supporting our lads, and we do appreciate you bringing in the washing! And now, before I sit down and consume a very large drink, the winner of this year’s Tivvy Town Travel Club Player of the Year award goes to a player who has played 49 games out of 55 this season. He gives 100% on the pitch. A midfield player, who has also given great coverage for the defensive line.  He is also my player of the year, so I am very honoured to present the award to

MIKE BOOTH

The travel club was formed in 2003 to arrange coach travel to away matches.
Space on the coach is available for members and non-members.
Membership for this season costs £25 (for adults) and allows discount travel to as many away matches as you like. The price on the coach for members is generally £10, although some local games will be cheaper than this. The table below shows the starting times for coaches from Ladysmead and also the prices for non-members.
To book seats for the coach see the travel club staff in the yellow hut, by the turnstiles at home matches or phone Reg Manaton  (01884) 257434.

AGM

The A.G.M. was held in the club house on Thursday 17th May.

This past season we visited 20 away clubs ,missing 4 away matches due to them being on a Tuesday evening and a Sunday. Changes have been made for next season the main two being

1 : the annual fee to join will remain at £25 but due to increase in fuel costs the charge for each away trip would be raised from £10 to £11 for club members.
2 : On away games in the Bristol area the coach would leave the grounds at 5.30 pm giving members a chance to chat to the players after the game.

All the present committee were voted back on for next season and thanks were given to many people who help to run the club doing various jobs to make it the success it is. Thanks were also expressed to Blake's Coaches and we will be travelling with them again next season. After the meeting which was attended by 38 members the annual raffle was held, also a splendid buffet was provided by Anthony and Iris.
The Travel Club is not just about football it is run as a social club as well and any new members who would like to join are more than welcome. Anyone interested membership forms will be available in the yellow hut on the club side and the programme hut on the stand side of the ground,  during the friendly matches which start in July.
