Bobby Robson National Football Day plans unveiled - Young guns @ Tiverton Town will be a part of the celebrations

Sir Bobby Robson Sir Bobby Robson died on 31 July 2009

Plans for a national football day that will honour the late Sir Bobby Robson have been unveiled by the FA.

About 150 events will take place across the country for The Sir Bobby Robson National Football Day on 10 August.

The FA said the day would focus on many aspects of the game including women's football, disability football, refereeing and coaching.

As part of the occasion the Tiverton Town Under 18's will take on The Tiverton reserves at Ladysmead with a 3.00PM kick Off. The Under 13s will take on St Martins with a 12 noon kick off and the other younger age groups will take part in a penalty shoot against during the half time of the Reserves v U18's game.

Team news for Saturday:

This coming Saturday 3rd August Tiverton Town travel to Saltash United for their penultimate pre-season friendly. On Tuesday evening Tivvy were fortunate to record a 2-1 win over local rivals Willand Rovers. “I didn’t really enjoy it,” said manager John Clarkson, “ It was a local derby which isn’t great for a friendly and it was like a cup final for Willand.” He wasn’t happy with the referee either, “ He didn’t have a grip on it, some of the tackles that were going in were pretty hard” Clarkson continued, “Our passing wasn’t great, but we probably should have been four goals up in the first-half. The goal that Willand got was basically sloppy from our defence. Passing the ball to someone who is marked on your own 18-yard box is not too clever at all.” However he was quick to pick out the positives, “ It is another ninety minutes, we have to learn from it and take our hats off to Willand at the same time. I wouldn’t have minded losing to Willand, sometimes  when you just go along really well and keep getting results you don’t learn as much. Our performance probably didn’t warrant a win against a side that played really well”

The manager hopes to tie up the signing of right back Steve Tully late on Thursday, “ A few things had to be clarified, what he thought he was going to do at the club was a bit different to what I wanted him to do. However it’s all sorted now and I’m sure he will sign for us” Tully is expected to be in the squad that travels to Cornwall on Saturday.Adam Kelly

Adam Kelly faces a fitness test on the hamstring he injured against Elmore, Shane Krac and Chris Long are both unavailable for the trip. Clarkson has yet to decide whether goalkeeper Romain Larrieu will be involved, “It’s a case of wait and see, I have a couple of games left to decide on keepers, I will make  a decision before the start of the season”

Steve Tully Signs for the Yellows

Tiverton Town are delighted to announce the signing of former Exeter City captain Steve Tully. Before his release on July 2nd he was Exeter’s longest serving player. The 33-year-old right back played in Tiverton’s 4-0 win at Elmore and signed after lengthy discussions on Sunday evening. Tulls started his career at Torquay United in 1997 and made of 100 appearances for the Gulls. Following his release in 2002 he joined Weymouth and played over 130 games for the Terras before financial problems at the Dorset club saw him move to Exeter City in January 2007. The deal also saw Richard Logan and Lee Elam make the same move on the same day. He became a fixture in the Grecians side, twice playing at Wembley as the side gained back-to-back promotions. In all he played 260 games for City and gained notoriety when using the “f” word live on Setanta after the famous play-off win at Torquay United. His place is cemented in City’s history as the player who scored the vital spot kick at Oxford United to take City to Wembley for the first time. He has just gained his EUFA B license and is manager of the highly successful Exeter Ladies team.
