Update on the Yate Game
Tivvy, without the services of Josh Concanen, Paul Kendall, Andy Taylor, Michael Nardiello and Jules Emati-Emati, pulled of a thrilling 2-1 victory at Yate Town in their last away league fixture of the campaign. Adam Faux made his first team return, wearing the captain’s armband, and Chris Onoufriou returned to the side for his first appearance of 2012, with Owen and Jesse Howe also starting. So, for the first time in years (decades/ever?), there were two sets of brothers in a Tivvy first team starting line-up as Alex Faux also featured from the start.
The first half saw Tivvy win half a dozen corners but Yate’s defence held firm although Joe Bushin came close with a flying volley. Owen Howe and Josh Searle also tested Lubos Ancin with headers. The nearest Yate came to scoring was midway through the half when Tom Knighton fired wide.
Joe Bushin stole the show in the second period with two stunning finishes, the second a candidate for goal of the season. His first came after Josh Searle battled for the ball in front of the dugouts, streaking clear to put in the perfect cross that Bushin met without breaking stride as he scooped the ball into the roof of the net to give Tivvy a 50th minute lead. A trademark Bushin finish. The second was an absolute screamer from 25 to 30 yards out. Joe hit the ball with perfection and it rocketed into the top corner giving Ancin no chance for Tivvy’s 85th minute winner. In between Yate were level within five minutes through Robin Nichols and Tivvy’s goal led a charmed life in a frantic spell on the hour when the ball was cleared off the line at least three times.
Up the other end, even Adam Faux came close to scoring on 67 minutes when he left rip from a narrow angle, Ancin managing to palm the ball away for a corner.
Full report to follow from Alan Reidy.
The Final Week
Tiverton Town’s season finishes with a hectic run of three games inside five days. First up is a return visit to Yate Town on Tuesday following the abandonment due to torrential rain earlier in the year. The weather forecast is not good. Let’s hope that lightning does not strike twice…
Torquay Assess Michael Nardiello
Michael Nardiello will be unavailable to play at Yate as he has been selected to play in a second Torquay United Development Game following his successful runout against Plymouth Argyle at the start of the month. Tuesday’s game is against the Nike Academy. This fixture at Plainmoor will kick-off at 12.30pm and tickets will be priced at £3 for adults and £1 concessions.
St Lukes Final
Then on Thursday, holders Buckland Athletic are the hosts in the St Lukes Cup Final in a repeat of last season’s final albeit that that was played at Ladysmead. Manager Mark Saunders will keep faith with the mixture of youth and experience that has seen Tivvy defeat Barnstaple Town and Bideford away and Plymouth Argyle at home as they look to pick up their first silverware in five seasons since winning the Southern League Cup in 2007. They last won the St Lukes in 2006, with a 2-1 victory at Barnstaple Town.
There will be a mini-bus running from Ladysmead to Buckland’s Newton Abbot home leaving at 6.15pm with the cost shared amongst the passengers. To book please call Ian Humphries on 01598 710208.
Kids For Free
The week ends with the final game of the season when Abingdon United are the visitors.
Tivvy will be distributing complimentary tickets to all the primary schools in Tiverton and will hope to end the season on a high.
Inter-Club Cup
On Thursday, the U16s take on the U18s for the annual challenge match at Ladysmead, kick-off 7pm.

The day after the night before, and from the perspective of Tiverton Town supporters the shockwaves are barely buffered. Booth smiled as the curtain came down, the crowd were shocked, and the king was well and truly dead, shot to pieces on stage in a remarkable act of selfishness. In twenty devastating minutes Buckland Athletic tore through the Tiverton defence not once, not twice, |
